First but not the best
Pokémon Red Version is the first generation of Pokemon and is a good game but not the best game. In Pokemon Red, the goal is to defeat the league, all 8 gyms, and Mewtwo and catch the other legendaries.
Personally, I don't find Pokemon Red to be much different from Blue because they're actually almost the same games. In Pokemon Red, you can choose a starter Pokemon: Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle. This Pokemon will help you complete everything. Pokemon Red also has a remake which is Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It's a fun game but some things are not well done and can be quite challenging.

Special Revival of the Game Boy!
Pokémon was released on the Game Boy, around 1995-96, and thanks to what is now called "PokéMania," it became a huge hit. In the game, you take on the role of a 10-year-old boy named Red, who, along with his rival Green (Blue in non-Japanese versions), travels the world in search of Pocket Monsters, abbreviated as Pokémon, that live in caves, seas, forests, and other natural habitats. During your adventure, you will also meet other people, Pokémon Trainers in various styles, who challenge you to battles, where your group of monsters and your opponent's take turns attacking, leading to nail-bitingly exciting situations.

Your ultimate goal is to defeat eight "Gym Leaders" in Pokémon battles. Once you have earned all eight corresponding Badges, you will gain access to the Pokémon League, where you will compete against the strongest Trainers in the entire region for the title of Pokémon Champion.

However, it turns out that not all people are equally kind to their monsters - in the region, a criminal organization operates under the name Team Rocket, scoundrels who are out to trade Pokémon on the black market. As the main character, you must stop this by fighting these villains in Pokémon Battles. Who is the leader of this gang, and how, and when, will you come face to face with them...?

The beginning of the legendary Pokemon game series!
Together with Pokemon Blue, this marked the start of the highly renowned and popular Pokemon game series.

If you're somewhat familiar with Pokemon, you roughly know what this is about. In the game, you're a Pokemon trainer. This means you catch and train Pokemon creatures to battle against other trainers and progress further.

The thing is, the game is really huge because there are a lot of Pokemon to catch (in this game, if I remember correctly, around 251 plus a few secret ones ;)). All these Pokemon are different and have specific elements (water, fire, grass, electric, etc.), which make them stronger or weaker against each other. The Pokemon you catch are used to battle in the game against other Pokemon and trainers to earn money. Additionally, you need to earn badges in Gyms to progress. Each Gym has an elite trainer specializing in a particular element, and a badge is what you earn when you defeat them. This is the only way to progress significantly in the game because without badges, your Pokemon will eventually stop obeying you.
Besides these exciting aspects, you'll encounter certain criminal organizations, people with varying degrees of integrity, and legendary Pokemon of which there is only one, etc. In any case, there's plenty to do.

Just know that if you buy one of these two, you'll also need the other to collect all the Pokemon. Because some are only in the Red version and others only in the Blue version. (It might be fun if you play with a friend, you can trade the missing ones).

But well, that pretty much sums it up. Maybe my story is a bit long-winded. But there's so much to tell, and it's challenging to explain this game briefly and succinctly.

The nostalgia
Here is where it all started for me as well.. I got the game in December 1999, was 11 years old and didn't know what was happening. I was used to playing Mario, but this was a whole new genre.

Pokémon had just started airing on TV, so it was pure magic. The nostalgic value for me is insanely huge. I've played all the games after this, so that says enough!

This game is in its most limited form, but at that time it was a revolution. The starter Pokémon choice for me was Squirtle and my starting team of 6 was also my final team! Nidoking as the heavy hitter, Pidgeot as the flyer, Squirtle as the leader and surfer, Aerodactyl as the fossil, Kadabra as the psychic type (Alakazam only obtained through trading, but I was the only one in school with this game), Arcanine completed the lineup.

It's black and white in graphics, simplicity in sound, but very captivating, because years later you still recognize it. Pokémon Red Version offers plenty of gameplay and is actually a must-play for any Pokémon fan.

I have my version, CIB, that will never go away.

Good start
The first few Pokémon games are still worth playing for anyone who enjoys modern Pokémon games. Ultimately, the formula of Pokémon games hasn't changed much since the first few were released, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Even though the game is obviously outdated, it still provides an experience that is fairly similar to the new ones.

However, these games are not perfect; they come with many issues and due to the limitations of the original Game Boy, there isn't much to do besides defeating the gym leaders and Elite 4. It does have many small flaws, but most of them are not noticeable while playing.

The classic!
The original Pokémon game in the West, if you want to start with Pokémon games or if you've played the newer games and fancy something retro, Pokémon Red Version is perfect. Of course, the game has its quirks, but that's what gives it its individuality. Plus, it's super cool for collectors to have such a classic in their collection!
